At the February 14th meeting, Bonnie Payne, Outreach Coordinator for the Office of International Education at UNK and exchange students Yongmo Koo (South Korea) and Maiko Oku (Japan) informed the club about the International Friendship Program at UNK to help us celebrate World Understanding Month in Rotary.

At the February 14th meeting, Andy Hanson gave a business brief and introduced the days program - Bonnie Payne, Outreach Coordinator for the Office of International Education at UNK to help us celebrate World Understanding Month in Rotary.

Bonnie informed the club about the International Friendship Program at UNK and was helped by two UNK exchange students, Yongmo Koo (from Korea), and Maiko Oku (from Japan), who told us about their experiences with the program.

The International Friendship Program seeks to connect international students with Kearney area families for the purposes of communication, cultural sharing and fun activities.  There are a total thirty-nine countries represented by international students attending UNK.  The program allows students the opportunity to experience American family life and culture and host families the opportunity to experience a foreign culture.

Rotary has a special place in Bonnie’s heart as her father has been a Rotarian in McCook for over 50 years.  As a college student, she had the opportunity to attend the Rotary International convention in Toronto.

To learn more about the program or to find out more about becoming a host family, please email Bonnie at payneb@unk.edu or call her at 865-8939.
